1938 Gibson Cromwell G6 Archtop
1938 Gibson Cromwell G-6 archtop guitar.
This Cromwell archtop guitar was made by Gibson in Kalamazoo and is top of the range – definitely not the 'budget' guitar that many Cromwells are. It has a solid carved top with flamed maple back and sides, pearl inlaid logo, and a (Brazilian?) Rosewood fretboard with pearliod inlays and the Cromwell centre stripe. The guitar looks to all original including its floating bridge, bound scratch plate and Grover Sta-tite open back tuners.
The guitar is in fantastic condition, especially considering it is 88+ years old. There is a small loss of finish to the top of the headstock, a small mark to one side and some light scratches to the top (see last 5 pictures), however overall the guitar really is in amazing condition.
This archtop guitar has a big, and very bright, sound, and the action is spot on – this guitar plays, and sounds, as well as it looks. Comes complete with a period case that we assume is original to the guitar.
