1950s Kay Archtop
1950s Kay Archtop
Very cool US made archtop guitar from sometime in the 1950s – likely made by Kay. Only marking or label in the guitar is a “Made in US” sticker inside F-hole.
The guitar has a 3 ½” deep body and a 15 ½” lower bout width. The double bound body is Mahogany with a Spruce top. The mahogany neck has a chunky soft V profile and a very dark Rosewood fretboard (Brazilian?) - The frets and fretboard are in great shape. All the hardware looks to original to the guitar with the exception of one of the tuner buttons.
There is evidence of an historical repair to a split in the top just to the left of the tail piece, that said the guitar is in great condition considering it is at least 70 years old. Setup with a new set of Dragon Skin 11s the guitar comes complete with a suitably vintage case.
