1961 Hofner Committee Thin
Top of the regular range of Hofner archtops, the Committee was designed to impress. Introduced as a UK-only model around 1953/54, the Committee sports the over-large "frondose" headstock and the impressive "tulip" style mother of pearl inlays in the facia. This all original 1961 Committee Thin has a 2" deep body (compared to the 3" or 3¼” of full bodied Committees), Birds Eye Maple veneer body back and sides, a carved solid spruce top and an ebony fretboard neck with ebony/pearl inlays. The Hofner “Toaster” pickups are connected to Hofner rectangular control panel. The neck pickup sounds full and warm with the bridge pickup giving a nice treble sound – when used together they produce a lovely vintage blues/jazz tone. One most distinguishing features of the Committee is the ornate body back inlays. The back on this guitar is quite typically beautifully quilted maple, and these two features combine for a stunning looking instrument. The guitar is all original (except the control panel fixing screws) with the only issue being the Rhythm/Solo switch only working on the Solo function. In fantastic condition with a bit of play wear on the neck, some missing ears on the ornate tuners and a small mark on the side of the body (see last 4 pictures)
The neck has been reset so nice low action and plenty of room, both up and down, on the adjustable floating bridge - ready for another 60+ years of play. This guitar comes complete its original Selmer Tweed case with red felt interior – the case has signs of it age having done its job in protecting the guitar inside but is still in really good condition.
