A really cool piece of Gretch guitar history that don't come up for sale too often.
The Gretsch Rancher series was introduced in the mid-1950s as part of Gretsch’s acoustic guitar line-up, evolving from the earlier Synchromatic models. This 1962 Rancher, model number G6022, is a 17"-wide jumbo acoustic guitar with a triangular (sometimes called "French") sound hole, giving them a distinctive visual identity – along with the “Western Orange” finish these acoustics really stand out. The list of players for this model is impressive with Eric Clapton, Brian Setzer, Gene Vincent, Paul Peek, and Ramblin' Jack Elliott amongst users of 1960s Ranchers.
The guitar has a Spruce top, Maple back and sides, Mahogany neck with Rosewood fretboard with the distinctive “thumb” fret markers. The guitar is all original, including the gold Grover tuners and the Rosewood bridge and adjustable saddle. The Western Orange colour is still superbly vibrant on the guitar and in really good condition. There is some play wear to the top associated with plectrum play around the sound hole and beyond the scratch plate, and one small cosmetic mark at the base of the rear of the neck (see last 4 pictures). This lacquer finish is just beginning to craze in places but the binding is (unusually for vintage Gretsch guitars) is in good condition.
The guitar has been setup with a new set of Dragon Skin 12s on board – comes complete with a modern fitted hard case.
