1964 Hofner Verithin Bass
Based on the Hofner Verithin six string semi-hollow bodied guitar the Verithin Bass features a double-cutaway body with a 1.25" depth. Available in the UK Selmer catalogues from 1963 until 1971 these are very sought after Hofner bass guitars.
The very thin body is made of Maple with a Maple top – as always with Hofner there is a great selection of the wood with a nice flame throughout. The Maple neck has a bound Rosewood fretboard and the classic Hofner bar type fret markers (as on the 6 string Verithin). The 2 Hofner staple pickups are controlled by separate volume and tone controls.
This 1964 model has the narrower pickup surrounds as used up until mid-1965. The bass is in great condition and is all original with the exception of the 2 genuine Hofner replacement pickups and the scratch plate bracket arm. The fretboard and frets are in really good condition with no visible wear on the frets. The finish does have some marks as you would expect from a 61+ year old bass, and a couple of vacant holes where the strap button has been relocated (see last 8 pictures) but generally these are small marks and the bass still looks fantastic. Only other point worth noting is that the volume pot for the neck pickup cuts out when on at 10 – fine when at 9.5 so that is where we leave it – we thought is better retaining original parts where possible and living with this little quirk.
The bass comes complete with a brand new Hofner Verythin (note the modern spelling) Bass case which is a perfect fit for this vintage Verithin version.
