1991 Gibson Custom Shop ES-775
This 1991 Gibson ES-775 is a rare Gibson hollow bodied archtop model that combines the elegance of Gibson’s ES line with premium appointments, making it the dream guitar for jazz players and collectors alike. Produced by Gibson's Custom Shop in limited numbers between 1990-1993 it is essentially a laminated-wood L4, featuring a flamed maple top, back, sides and neck, a solid ebony fingerboard and knobs, all-gold hardware, multi-bound headstock, and the unique split block inlays
Whilst the ES-775 was definitely produced as a showpiece model it also exhibited some significant structural changes over its workhorse cousin, the ES-175. The neck pickup was moved to the end of the fingerboard for a mellower tone (in contrast to the 24th fret placement on the 175) and the cutaway was appreciably deepened, for improved access to the upper fingerboard.
This guitar has been superbly looked after over its 35 years and is in fantastic condition. There is lacquer crazing to the front of the headstock, as is common for Gibsons of this time. The bridge has been upgraded to one with nylon saddles (the original is included in the case). The electrics have also been upgraded (original wiring loom is included in the case). And finally the control knobs have been changed to rally nice Ebony knobs (again the original knobs are included in the case. The guitar comes complete with its original Gibson tan case, which has a replacement handle (original broken handle is in the case).
The guitar has been setup with a set of Thomastik flatwounds, and plays, and sounds, even better than it looks – a really great example of this rare Gibson archtop.
