Here is one of the coolest guitars ever made - the Gibson Firebird V. Introduced in 1963, the Gibson Firebird V, with its neck-through design, was a radical departure from most of the guitars available at the time. The original models were referred to as ‘Reverse’ as the offset body used the opposite orientation as most guitar bodies, particularly Fender’s then-new offset-body Jazzmaster and Jaguar. These guitars also used a new, small bar-magnet humbucking pickup that is not to be confused with the mini-humbuckers used on the later Les Paul Deluxe models.
Nothing else really looks like this design, and it was quickly adopted by players like Brian Jones, Eric Clapton, Howlin’ Wolf, and later of course Johny Winter and Allen Collins of Lynyrd Skynrd.
The Firebird line was discontinued in 1970, and has been reissued repeatedly with varying features and specifications. This Firebird V Reissue is probably the most iconic with its asymmetrical mahogany body, white pickguard with engraved Firebird symbol, through-body nine-piece mahogany/walnut neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl trapezoid inlay, tune-o-matic bridge/stop tailpiece, partial blackface headstock with pearl logo inlay and of course the six-on-a-side banjo tuners.
The guitar is in fantastic condition with only some very very light play wear marks to show for its 21+ years - comes complete with original Gibson fitted hard case.
