2005 Moon Custom Model AR-0006 hand made by Scotland’s best known luthier Jimmy Moon in Glasgow.
For those of you outside of Scotland who may not have heard of Jimmy Moon, Jimmy was based in Glasgow from 1985 and made custom electric guitars for the likes of Simple Minds, Wet Wet Wet, Del Amitri & Texas. Probably better known for his acoustics with Moon owners including Adele, Bryan Adams, Dougie MacLean, Guy Berryman (Coldplay), Paolo Nutini, Steve Earle and the Scissor Sisters. Jimmy is sort of retired now but is still making acoustic instruments in his workshop on the island of Arran. All of Jimmy’s instruments were/are handmade and always use the highest quality materials and components.
This fantastic concert size acoustic guitar is a true one-off made by Jimmy. It has an Alaskan “Bear Claw” Sitka Spruce top with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides. The Brazilian Mahogany 643mm scale neck has an Ebony fretboard with inner white binding and Abalone shell split diamond fret markers. The ebony headstock plate has Moon inlay and a custom inlay just above the bridge, with Alessi hand-made machine heads with buttons that match the neck and body tortoiseshell binding. The guitar is finished off with a triple ring Abalone shell rosette and purfling.
The guitar has an LR Baggs pickup built in with volume and tone controls just inside the sound hole. The guitar has been well cared for by its 2 owners and is in fantastic condition with only a couple of small marks to show for its 20 years. And the sound really is special with a nice bottom end and good balance right across the frequencies – if you can make it into the shop to give this one a play you will not be disappointed. Comes complete with its original hard case and a print off of the specification.
