2018 Lame Horse LH14 "Lillian"
A show stopping electro acoustic guitar from Texas based Lame Horse Guitars - Builders of Custom Hand Made Guitars. The LH14 (Lame Horse 14 Fret) was inspired by the pre-World War II Gibson L series flat tops. Lame Horse set out to capture that classic sound, and add a few Lame Horse updates – such as access panels, adjustable neck action, multi-ply necks and sides. The result is a stunning looking guitar that performs well being played finger style, strummed, or flat picked.
Lame Horse name all of their LH14 guitars –built in 2018 this one is called Lillian.
Lillian is in mint condition and has a Sitka Spruce top with Honduran Mahogany back and sides, an Ebony Fretboard, Bone nut and saddle, Birdseye Maple interior side linings, Honey mesquite bridge, Curly Maple bindings, access panel cover, and head veneer. The Honduran Mahogany seven-piece neck has a unique system to adjust playing action to suit any player, and the electrics are courtesy of a B-Band 1.2 A pickup system. Key dimensions are: 14.5” lower bout; 9.5” upper bout; 25” scale length; 1¾” nut width
The attention to detail from Lame Horse is fantastic:
Adjustable Neck - The playing action on all finely made acoustic guitars changes some over time. String pull, humidity (and lack of humidity), and temperature variations all change the playing action. This LH14 is equipped with a system which allows the player to quickly and easily dial in the perfect playing action whenever necessary, under full string tension.
Access Panel – situated on the bottom edge of the guitar, the access panel on all Lame Horse guitars makes it very easy to visualize and work on the inside of their acoustic guitars. Installing or changing electronics is a breeze. It also gives a pallet for artwork and a chance to show of the interiors of the guitars. “Not having an access panel is like buying a new automobile and welding the hood shut”.
Interior Side Linings - All Lame Horse guitars have sides made up of a normal, bent, solid tone wood side with two layers of wood veneer laminated to the inside of it. Not only does this make for a beautiful side that will resist cracking, but the glue joint locks the rim’s shape, overcoming any tendency to spring back. It allows LH to glue tops and backs on to the sides out of a mould, without the use of spreaders – removing any tension placed on the top or back by helping to hold the shape of the guitar.
Graph Tech Ratio Tuners - Unlike traditional gears, each machine head in the set has a gear ratio custom designed for its intended string: 12:1 (high E), 20:1 (B), 35:1 (G; 14:1 for a wound G with a thin core), 20:1 (D), 24:1 (A) and 39:1 (low E) – this means each string reacts the same way to any tuning adjustments – no slowing down for the low E or G string, or twisting away on the high E.
And to top it all off Lillian comes complete with a custom made (indestructible) Calton case that retails new at circa £1,100 ($1,500), together with the original Lame Horse case candy.
