1960 Hofner President
The President was Hofner’s middle-of-the-range archtop throughout the 50's, 60's, and into the 70's. Introduced in acoustic format around 1953 as the upgraded version of the Model 457 for the UK market, the President is equipped with flamed maple back and sides and a solid carved spruce top, with a single Venetian style cutaway. Triple dot fret markers, neck/F-hole binding, translucent tortoise shell scratch plate, Compensator tail piece and vine leaf mother of pearl inlays to the headstock facia, provided a suitable level of ornamentation for this classy brunette burst finished guitar.
Turning 65 years old this year this Hofner President is in great condition, with nice low action and a new set of Earthwood 12s on board. The guitar is all original with the exception of the Ebony floating bridge and the scratch plate bracket. With these 65 years of plays comes some minor scars – There is the usual loss of finish to the top edge of the headstock and some play wear to the neck; there are a couple of small marks to the top just above the bridge and some loss of the finish to the underside edge of the guitar (where nobody can see it…) - see last 6 pictures. Overall though it is in great condition and still sounds fantastic. The guitar does have one nice addition – a built-in passive pickup – 3 small sensors fitted inside the body, and connected through an end pin jack point, give a nice representation of the acoustic sound of the guitar. And to top off the package this President comes complete with its original Selmer hard case which has a sticker on the top for The Collegians Dance Band.
