1961 Hofner 464/S
Manufactured between 1952 and 1968 the Hofner 464/S was one of the premium lines of archtops produced by the company for the European market. The 3” deep Maple body features a single Venetian style cutaway, two "sickle" shaped sound holes, plus a single ornamented rhomboid hole below the end of the neck. The deep red lacquer sunburst finish is very striking, and the guitar is fitted with the prestigious "Escutcheon" tailpiece.
With the 464/S being produced for the European market this model is rare to find in the UK. This 1962 example is all original and is in simply superb condition, with the finish still very vibrant in colour. The guitar has an after-market strap holder attached to the back of the guitar – this was clearly attached to another part of the back as evidenced by the 6 small marks (see last picture). The Rosewood fretboard, with the bar fret markers (as on the Verithin models), and frets are in great condition with no visible fret wear. The guitar comes complete with a faux leather fitted case that a previous owner has added a Hofner logo to.
