Product Details

The Gretsch Chet Atkins Tennesean was introduced in 1958 - part of the Chet Atkins signature line. By 1962 the 6119 model had evolved to include a 2”-deep body, painted on simulated f holes on a dark cherry-walnut stain, a rosewood fretboard with thumbprint inlays, two single-coil Gretsch Hi-Lo’Tron pickups, master Volume knob on the cutaway bout, three-position pickup selector, Tone toggle on the upper bass about, two Volume knobs on the lower bout, and white binding on the fretboard and top of the body (none on the back). The model continued to evolve, but those of interest to most collectors and players are those from early/mid ‘60s.

This 1963 model still plays and sounds great. The finish looks like the Walnut finish offered by Gretsch at the time but a look under the Bigsby and the pickup rings shows the unfaded Dark Cherry finish. The guitar has clearly been well played over the years with plenty plat wear in evidence on the neck, bottom edge of the top and with a large area of buckle rash on the back. The frets are showing plenty of wear too but the guitar still plays true across the fretboard with low action and no buzz or dead notes (see last 7 pictures). With the exception of some screws the guitar is all original and comes complete with its original hard case, which has seen plenty action but still has all it catches and continues to do its job of protecting this 62+ year old classic Gretsch.
