1978 Shergold Custom Double (4 string bass / 6 string guitar)

The Custom Double was introduced in 1977 and made in quantity from 1978 to satisfy the demand for Shergold Double Neck guitars created by the prominent use by Mike Rutherford of a custom made Shergold double neck. Essentially this is the double neck fusion of the Custom Masquerader guitar and the Marathon bass. Two output jacks are fitted, one for standard mono signal, and the other for stereo.

Produced early in the Shergold Golden Years this 1978 example is in super condition. It is in the main all original with the exception of the reproduction bridge covers. The guitar is missing its scratch plate and does have the rather obvious addition of a Jazz Bass pickup with an on/off micro switch for more tonal options on the bass – doesn’t look greatly out of place but only makes a small difference to the sound as the ReAn pickup is so good anyway. The guitar has spent most of the past 20+ years in its case which means the condition of the guitar is really good – both fretboards and all 43 frets are in great condition. These are a couple of small marks on the body and vacant holes for the missing scratch plate (see last 5 pictures) and the usual lacquer cracking you find on these vintage Shergolds. Comes complete with original (heavy) hard case.
