1984 Fender Standard Stratocaster (2-Knob)
In superb condition this 1984 Fender Standard Stratocaster comes complete with original Fender hard shell case.
At the end of the resurgent Dan Smith era, Fender introduced a new Stratocaster with only two control knobs and an input jack mounted on the top of the body for 1983 and 1984. This guitar is referred to as the "Standard Stratocaster". Unique to this two-year production run were the Freeflyte surface-mounted vibrato tailpiece (no internal cavity), top mounted input jack and no second tone knob. Maybe not one for the Stratocaster purists but superbly built by the Fullerton factory at a time when Fender had access to the best woods in the world.
This 1984 sunburst model has had one owner from new, and clearly has not had a lot of play. The guitar is in superb condition with the colours still very vibrant, and the lacquer still has a superb gloss shine to it. There is one small mark on the back of the treble side horn, and another to the lower edge of the body (see last 2 pictures). There are some light polish swirls and very light buckle rash to the back, but so light we could not pick this up on the photographs. The guitar is all original with the exception of the bridge pickup that has been changed over (in the 1980s) to an early DiMarzio SDS-1 single coil pickup. The SDS is a high output single coil pickup that gives a fatter, punchier sound that the traditional Stratocaster bridge pickup – very cool addition.
