1991 Yamaha MSG Standard
Made in Taiwan for Yamaha these guitars were designed in the UK by Martyn Booth, ex Gibson Guitar technician of great talent, now a Luthier making custom guitars. Martyn designed this after seeing Gibson's 335s - an apparently not great solid body 335 they released this in 1980. By 1987 Martyn was working with Yamaha U.K. and he designed the Image (MSG) to complement Yamaha's SG line. In the UK they are badged as MSG (Martyn's Solid Guitar) for branding reasons. It has a Mahogany body with a carved Maple cap and Maple binding. The set Mahogany neck has a bound Rosewood fretboard and a 25” scale (as you find on most PRS guitars).
From the headstock shape and volume control knob position we can tell this a later model, made in 1991 before Yamaha ended production in November 1991. The guitar is in immaculate condition with the trans-amber finish really making the flame on the Maple top pop out. The guitar is all original although we understand that the top was refinished by Andy Guyton sometime in the 1990s. The guitar comes complete with its original hard case.
