Product Details

The Martin 18 Style began to take its modern form in 1917 when Martin produced the first 18 Style instruments with Spruce tops and Mahogany back and sides. This rare 1929 model has a slotted headstock is one of only 227 produced that year. It is in great, restored, condition - A superb opportunity to get a pre-war Martin that we rarely see for sale here in the UK. With the guitar approaching 97 years old its next owner will see it through its 100 th birthday and will then own an antique Martin 000-18.

The guitar has been refinished at some point in its past – this lacquer is now starting to craze on the top (see last 2 pictures). The bridge and saddle have also been replaced with the original rectangular bridge replaced with a vintage style pyramid Ebony bridge. The scratch plate looks to have been added at the time of the refinish. We have re-fretted the guitar (it arrived into the shop with a poor refret job), tidied up the fretboard and added an Ebony strap button. We have also stabilised a small hairline split towards the bottom of the lower bout and similar work to the back seam which was just beginning to separate – works carried out by our local luthier Mark Burnet.

The end result is a superb sounding, and playing, Pre-war Martin that is great shape to go on for another 100 years. The guitar comes complete with a Hiscox case for its protection.
