1930s Regal Tenor Guitar – Model No. 81
1930s Regal Tenor Guitar – Model No. 81
This US made 21” scale tenor guitar is great fun to play. The back and sides are made from selected figured birch (the back is very pretty), finished in a satin Walnut colour, and the top is “Clear Spruce”. The hardwood neck is a standard tenor banjo neck, with ebonised fretboard and patent friction banjo style tuners.
These 12-fret, tailpiece-style tenor guitars were made by Regal from the early '20s through around '40 but this one dates from close to '30 judging by its inlaid celluloid headstock medallion. We have included a picture from 1928 catalogue showing advert for this model at $15.75. The guitar is in great condition with only some genuine play wear around the sound hole and some light marks to the top and sides to show for its near 100 year life. Frets are in great shape and tuners still work as they should. The only change to the guitar is the addition of a floating bridge pickup, with a volume control situated just inside the sound hole and an end pin jack point – this pickup really does reproduce the acoustic sound of the guitar superbly.
The guitar has been setup with a new set of strings on standard Tenor tuning of GDAE and produces really nice tone with real punch and volume – the guitar comes complete with a brand new TGI Transit gig bag (Baritone Ukulele size) which is a perfect fit for the guitar.
