1959 Hofner President
The President was Hofner’s middle-of-the-range archtop throughout the 50's, 60's, and into the 70's. Introduced in acoustic format around 1953 as the upgraded version of the Model 457 for the UK market, the President was equipped with flamed maple back and sides and a solid carved spruce top, with a single Venetian style cutaway. Triple dot fret markers, neck/F-hole binding, and vine leaf mother of pearl inlays to the headstock facia, provided a suitable level of ornamentation for this classy brunette burst finished guitar.
Now 67 years old this Hofner President is in great condition, and the guitar has had its neck reset so all good to go for another 60+ years. With these years of plays comes some minor dings – there is the usual loss of finish to the top edge of the headstock, play wear to the neck, some small marks to the top and sides, and a small scratch to the back (see last 9 pictures). Please note there is no scratch plate included with the guitar.
The guitar started life as an acoustic guitar – a vintage Hofner diamond pickup has been fitted at a later date along with volume and tone controls, original Pekalit knobs and a jack point in the lower treble side - great vintage additions to this acoustic archtop guitar. The guitar has been fitted with a set of Thomasik flat wound 11s and comes complete with a modern fitted hard shell case.
