1960s Arnold Hoyer Jumbo Acoustic
1960s Arnold Hoyer Jumbo Acoustic guitar, made in (West) Germany - Serial number 013106.
Hoyer was established in 1874 by Franz Hoyer in his workshop in Schönbach (now Luby in the Czech Republic). Like the Hofner family, the Hoyer family left Schönbach in 1945, and settled in Bavaria, Germany. Franz Hoyer's grandson Arnold reorganised the Hoyer company and the brand soon became known for its great quality instruments.
This 1960s guitar is a great example of that quality, is all original and in superb condition. It has Mahogany back and sides with a solid Spruce top. The finish to the back and sides has a lovely subtle bronze sparkle running through it – the lacquer was starting to lift slightly to the treble side waist but we have sealed this with a little glue and clear lacquer to prevent any further movement (see last picture) - this has left a small white line that looks like a scratch.
The Spruce top has a herringbone detail binding and a very nice sound hole rosette. The Rosewood bridge has adjustable saddle. The mahogany neck has a bound rosewood with block MOP inlays. The guitar has been really well maintained over the years and is ready to play on for another 60+ years. The guitar has been setup with nice low action, and sounds great, with the big sound you would expect from a quality made jumbo – come complete with padded gig bag.
