1964 Gibson EB-2
The Gibson EB-2 was launched in 1958, as a companion to the electric archtop the ES-335, and manufactured until 1961. The EB-2 was reintroduced in the first half of 1964, with 340 shipped that year. The construction was largely unchanged from the earliest examples, with laminate maple top and back, maple sides and one-piece Honduras mahogany neck, Rosewood fretboard has pearl dot inlays, Kluson 538 tuning keys and the Baritone switch. The only real change was the Gibson EB humbucker with nickel cover. Note that these early “reissues” had the raised crown headstock logo of the early 1960s basses and no hand rest. Likewise, the understring mute, although available and fitted to some basses, was not yet routinely fitted.
This 1964 EB-2 is a fantastic example of that 1 st year of the EB-2 reintroduction. The bass is all original and in very good condition with only a couple of small play wear marks to show for its 62 years of play (see last 2 pictures). The action is nice and low with the bass playing and sounding great. Comes complete with its original Rossetti hard case.
