Product Details

In 1964, Rickenbacker shipped its first “export” models to Rose, Morris, Ltd as part of a deal for Rose Morris to become the main distributor in the UK, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. This 1964 Rickenbacker Rose Morris Model 1997 is equivalent to the Rickenbacker 330 model, with its distinctive “F” holes instead of the usual “cat's eye” sound holes. The Rose Morris Rickenbackers were famously played by John Lennon and Pete Townsend (who also smashed up a few too).

The guitar is all original including its “R” tailpiece and toaster pickups. The electrics look to be untouched, with all the pot codes backing up the serial number in confirming the 1964 manufacture date. The guitar has clearly been well played (always a good sign) – however the frets are in great condition with little/no visible fret wear - the fretboard has had some divots infilled in the past, but apart from appearing as a different colour finish on the fretboard the work has been well done and the fretboard is smooth from top to bottom. The front of the body has some small marks to show for its 60+ years. The back has plenty of wear, especially on the rare edges and a large area of buckle rash to the centre (see last 7 pictures).

The guitar comes complete with its original hard case and its original Rickenbacker embossed leather strap. A great example of this iconic vintage Rickenbacker which will be attractive to both players and collectors alike.
