1967 Hofner Senator E1 "66"
The Senator was the "working-mans" archtop in the Selmer catalogue between late-1952 and c1971 when it finally disappeared. It sat between the lowly Congress and the mid-range President in Hofner's archtop hierarchy. Its nearest equivalent in the European/US Hofner range was the Hofner Model 455.
The main features of the Senator include a plain Maple body top, and Flame Maple veneer body back and sides, Maple neck with Rosewood fretboard with five triple-dot fret markers and a compensator tailpiece.
Late in 1965 Hofner introduced a Venetian body cutaway on electric models, along with a revised scratch plate shape (similar to President model). This 1967 brunette finished model has a Hofner blade pickup fitted, controlled by single volume and tone pots. Please note the pots are not original. From the Hofner register on Steve Russell’s site this is the only known Brunette 66 model to have the Blade pickup fitted.
Despite being almost 60 years old the guitar is in fantastic condition. There is a little loss of finish to the top of the headstock, some play wear to the side of the neck and the Hofner logo on the headstock is missing the top of the H (see last 3 pictures). The neck has been rest so guitar is good to play on for another 50-60 years – set up with a new set of Thomastik flat wound 12s.
There is no case with this guitar but you can add a brand new Hofner Archtop case for only £99 (normal price £128).
