Hofner 457 Archtop. Hofner's mid-range archtop with spruce top and nicely flamed maple back and sides. Produced from 1952 onwards, and still in the price lists in the 1990's.
This model is from late 60s/early 70s. During this period Hofner introduced a one-piece maple neck and narrow-depth neck heel for the 457. The F-hole shape has been revised again to that used right through to the end of 457 production in the 1990's. The old-style strip fretmarkers were changed to simple dots and the three-on-a-plate tuners were still in use.
This is a great example in fantastic condition and all original. One of the tuner arms is slightly bent but with no effect on use. Lacquer on the front is just beginning to age craze and there is a small ding to the front edge of the binding in the lower bout area and a small scratch next to base of the neck - shown on last 3 photographs.
