This 1974 Hofner 500/1 (Violin Bass) is such a joy to play. Strung with flat wound strings, with nice low action, the noise produced by these powerful H513B blade pickups is brilliant.
Originally issued/sold in Europe the bass does not have Selmer sticker or serial number stamp. With the plastic button "pyramid" tuners, lacquered gold Hofner headstock logo, 513 (blade) pickups with engraved Hofner logo, short tail piece and short rounded heal the bass would have been manufactured circa 1973/74.
This bass has certainly seem some play over the years and the finish is showing signs of it 50+ years (see last 8 pictures) - the lacquer has started to craze, in a very cool way, and this is most noticeable over the darker areas of the body finish - tried to capture this in last 3 pictures. This bass does lack some original hardware with both the scratch plate and the control panel being modern re-issue parts. It does however comes complete with a vintage fibreboard Selmer hard case.
