1974 S Yairi TW-150 Acoustic
Sadao or Sada Yairi was a guitar maker and guitar manufacturer from Nagoya, Japan who was active from the 1930s to the 1990s. He sold guitars under a number of labels including Sadao Yairi, Yairi Gakki, S. Yairi, and Sada Guitar. He also manufactured guitars for Lowden, Alvarez of St. Louis Music, Morris, Fender and Aria - probably best known in the UK for the Soloist classical guitar distributed by Barnes & Mullins. He was the uncle of the Japanese Master Luthier K Yairi.
This 1974 S Yairi TW-150 is a superbly made copy of the Martin D-35 featuring a 3-piece Rosewood back, Rosewood sides, and a Sitka spruce top with a lovely abalone inlay around the sound hole and binding. The mahogany neck has a bound ebony fingerboard and an easy playing modified low oval neck shape, finished off with quality Schaller tuners.
The guitar has had one owner since it was bought brand new in 1976 from Grants in Edinburgh (a shop well known for importing Japanese made guitars) – the original receipt is included in the case. The guitar is all original and includes the original hard case that it was purchased with (please note that one of the 4 latches is broken). The guitar has been really well cared for over the past 50 years and is in great condition. It does have a small ding to the lower bass side of the top and some minor marks to the lower treble side of the top but it really is in great condition for its age. The fretboard is in really good condition and there is only light visible wear to the top 5 frets. The guitar still has a nice low action and has been setup with a new set of Elixir Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb 12s.
