Gibson first introduced the Custom Shop ’58 Les Paul Standard Reissue (R8) in the early 1990s, shortly after the Custom Shop began producing historically accurate Les Paul reissues following its creation in 1986. This R8 was made in 2001 when Gibson’s Nashville Custom Shop operated under the Custom, Art & Historic Division, the group responsible for the Historic Collection reissues. This was a particularly good period for Gibson for wood selection and build quality.
This Custom Shop '58 Les Paul Standard Reissue features a mahogany body, with a really nice figured maple top and a nice Lemon Burst finish. The Mahogany neck has the more rounded '50s neck profile, with a rosewood fretboard. The power comes from a pair of Gibson’s Burstbucker pickups.
The guitar is in great condition and doesn’t seem to have had much play over the last 25 years – although there is one small mark on the back of the neck (see last picture). The guitar comes complete with its Gibson Custom Art & Historic hard case and COA.
